Gateway Arch Anniversary
October 28, 2008 marked the 43rd anniversary of the final section of the Gateway Arch being put into place. This year's celebration took place on October 25 from 9:00 - 12:30.
Gateway Arch visitors had the opportunity to meet the builders--they were the most skilled in their trade in our country in the 1960's.
They shared their incredible first-hand stories of their role in building a structure that had never been built before and nothing like it has been built since. They also shared their memorabilia and photographs--some of which have never been seen before by the public.
Birthday cake was served in Levee Mercantile and children experienced the 'construction zone'--an activity area for all ages with Arch tabletop models to build, puzzles and coloring pages.
The City of St. Louis Refuse Division was also onsite displaying information and providing handouts and answering questions about buying reused and/or recycled products. Additionally, they displayed information about reusing different materials, including an activity which taught children how to make notebooks (or autograph books) from used materials.
